National Library Week

Book Banquets

Join us as Queens Library celebrates National Library Week with our Book Banquets.  

We will be hosting six author talks. Each author's work reflects the diverse, active literary life of our city. Participants must register via Eventbrite. Books will be available for purchase. Enjoy a meal with the author.

T. C. Wang | April 8, 2pm | Flushing

Ting Chun Wang, also known as T. C. Wang, contributed to underground newspapers during the War of Resistance again Japan. He published his four-volume autobiography from 1992 to 2009. His essays, literary criticism, novels, plays, and poems total more than 40 publications. This program will be in Mandarin Chinese.

Marina Budhos | April 9, 4pm | Central Library Teen Space

Marina Budhos’s most recent novel Watched (Wendy Lamb Books/Random House), takes on surveillance in a post 9/11 era. Watched received an Asian/Pacific American Award for Literature YA Honor and is an Honor Book for The Walter Award.

Zetta Elliott | April 10, 6:30pm | Corona

Zetta Elliott’s latest YA novel The Door at the Crossroads was a finalist in the Speculative Fiction category of the 2017 Cybils Awards. Her picture book Melena’s Jubilee won a 2017 Skipping Stones Award. Her picture book Bird won the Honor Award in Lee & Low Books’ New Voices Contest and the Paterson Prize for Books for Young Readers.

Javaka Steptoe | April 14, 2pm | Cambria Heights

Javaka Steptoe received the 2017 ALA Coretta Scott King Award, the 2017 Caldecott Award, and the 2017 NAACP Image Award Nomination for Outstanding Literary Work for his book Radiant Child, a biography of the young artist Basquiat.
